Reducing Waste in the Laundry Room

We Tested Sustainable Laundry Sheets. Here's What we Think.

An increasing number of eco-friendly brands have started making their own laundry detergent sheets. In fact, you can usually buy them online or at many grocery stores for under a dollar per load. And as more people look for innovative ways to decrease their carbon footprint and household reliance on products in single-use plastics, this light-weight laundry option is gaining traction.

But would you trust a simple detergent sheet to do the job?

We tried Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets and will discuss what we found. But first, let's see some of the features of laundry sheets over some conventional detergents.

The Proof is in the Packaging

The first major benefit is that laundry detergent sheets are more eco-friendly. They are usually made of natural ingredients that don't cause any harm to your skin or the environment. Moreover, laundry sheets aren't supplied in plastic packaging. They are usually sold in eco-friendly paper packets-- saving on storage space,  transit costs, and even water use.

Conventional detergents in plastic bottles may be easier to find, but most of these bottles are unsustainable and some have even been found to contain compounds that pose various risks to health and the environment-- even if labeled as 'biodegradable'.

Our Verdict

As mentioned above, we tried Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets and here's what we found.

We like the sheets.

We love using laundry sheets because they are easy to use and require minimal space. We tried out the detergent sheets in both a front-loading and top-loading washing machine and found them to be as effective as standard detergent.

Just as with conventional detergents, you shouldn't overload your washer and expect your clothes to come out sparkling clean. Following laundry load guidelines and detergent use guideline is important for an effective clean.

Note: You should always read the labels carefully and skip a laundry detergent that contains allergens or ingredients that you should avoid.
